The Legacy Of Israel’s Occupation Described In Five Points:

Israel’s 50-year occupation of Palestinian territories has led to systematic human rights violations on a mass scale.

Here’s the legacy of occupation in five points:

1: Land Theft:

In the UN Partition Plan, about 46% of historic Palestine was destined for the Arab state. But the Palestinian territories constitute only 24% including land occupied by Israeli settlers.

2: Occupation Of Resources:

According to the Palestinian Water Authority, the average Israeli consumption of water is 300 litres per person every day. And it is more than four times that of the Palestinian use of 72 litres per day.

3: Military Power:

Israel has one of the world’s most modernised armies equipped with a nuclear arsenal. While Palestinians have no regular army. And don’t have much to defend themselves with.

According to data published by OCHA around 6000 Palestinians were killed between 2008 and 2020. While some 250 Israelis were killed during the same time.

4: Displacement:

Today, there are more than 7 million Palestinian refugees scattered around the world. Palestinians who were forcefully evicted in 1948 were not allowed to return to their country.

The settler population in the occupied West Bank has risen 43% since 2010. There are now more than 440,000 settlers in the occupied territory.

5: Status Of Jerusalem:

The status of Jerusalem remains one of the main sticking points in efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
